DCI ready to challenge for podium place as KVF women's league returns

Bor's charges finished fourth behind Kenya Pipeline, KCB and Prisons Kenya, last season

After more than two months of inaction in the local league, Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) women’s league returns for the final regular league leg on 12 to 14 September.

The league took a break to pave way for national team assignment as Malkia Strikers left for training camp in Morocco ahead of the FIVB Challenger Cup and the CAVB African Nations Championships.

Newly-elected organising secretary John Oronje released fixtures for the fifth leg where teams will have one last opportunity to fight for a playoff slot.

Action opens with a clash between Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and former champions Prisons Kenya on Tuesday 12 September at 9 am. The investigators take on Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and Kenya Army on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.

Coach Daniel Bor is keen to guide his side to a podium place, having coming short last season to finish fourth, as he looks to qualify his side for the continental club championships.

“We continued training, albeit lightly after the league took a break and only took a three-week break. W got back two weeks ago so the break has not affected the team that much. They are fit and, with the fixtures out, we are down to the tactical aspects of our game,” Bor told Mozzart Sport.

The tactician is happy to have the experience of Jemimah Siang’u who has been with the national team in the two assignments, establishing herself as a crucial part of the Luizomar de Moura-coached side as she was brought in off the bench for her services.

“Having her back in the squad is a good motivation to the rest of the players. Her experience will also push us towards the podium target. The focus for now is finishing the regular season on a high,” Bor added.

Meanwhile, holders Kenya Pipeline have two matches in the three days, first against KDF and the other against Vihiga Team on Tuesday and Thursday respectively.

KCB who are chasing the elusive national title play Kenya Army and Nairobi Water.
